Choosing fuel line for a small engine

Fuel line is the cheapest part on the engine and the one that cracks first. Match the inside diameter, then pick the material.

Black rubber fuel line coil

Inside diameter

3/16 in fits most trimmers, Honda GX tanks and many generators; 1/4 in fits Briggs & Stratton walk-behinds, tractors and most mini bikes; 3/8 in is for cars, boats and large generators.

Material

Ethanol

All three are rated for E10 and E85 fuel. Old line goes hard and cracks; replace it when it no longer bends without kinking.

Clamps and filters

Use a clamp at every barb and put the inline filter where you can see it, arrow toward the carburetor.
